In our hyperconnected world we are virtually connected to an unprecedented amount of people. Yet, feelings of loneliness are growing due to a lack of a human ‘physical’ touch.
OurSpace is a participatory performance that zooms in on the virtual and the physical space between people, their online and offline identities and social encounters. The audience participates in the performance through their smartphones, guided by an artificial chatbot. This artificial companion shares stories and responds with assignments that translate online social habits into physical movements. These story lines can vary from simple actions, such as “If you think somebody looks interesting, tap this person on the shoulder,” to more intimate actions like “Who would you like to date? Stroke that person on the left cheek.”
