Monica Bill Barnes
Contemporary Dancer
Biography
Monica Bill Barnes & Company is a contemporary American dance company known for bringing dance where it typically doesn't belong. It combined radio stories and dance in Three Acts, Two Dancers, One Radio Host, featuring radio host Ira Glass, and the company has performed in historic venues in over 50 cities around the world—most recently at the Sydney Opera House. The company gravitates toward unlikely environments, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where the dancers will lead a choreographed workout routine called The Museum Workout beginning in January 2017, or a weekly after-work office party, the setting for their long-running show Happy Hour. The company believes in using movement as a way to celebrate awkward moments, to turn failures into triumphs, and to find strange humor in our everyday familiar feelings.
