MAY


  • Performance by Harold O'Neal in NOWHERE
    Thursday, May 27th, 11am–12pm ET
    Join us in NOWHERE, an exciting new face-to-face, browser-based virtual events platform that lets people create, explore, and connect in unforgettable 3D worlds. We’ll be treated to a performance by Harold O’Neal, a gifted pianist, composer, speaker, and storyteller who has performed with the likes of U2 and Jay-Z, appeared on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, and most recently served as a creative expert on Pixar’s Academy Award–nominated film Soul.



JUNE


  • Tour of Weta Workshop from Richard Taylor
    Wednesday, June 2nd, 4–6pm ET
    A unique entity within the world of film, New Zealand’s Weta Workshop is an all-in-one artisan studio that handles everything from concept design, prop manufacturing, and miniatures to costumes, special makeup effects, and prosthetics for blockbuster films like the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Avatar. We’ll be traveling to Auckland with Weta’s Cofounder and Creative Director, Richard Taylor, who will be taking us on a tour of Weta Workshop: Unleashed—an immersive experience that gives visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the creative magic that Weta employs to bring its projects to life.

  • Conversation with Award–winning Animator Glen Keane
    Thursday, June 10th, 2:30–4pm ET
    Legendary Disney animator Glen Keane—whose 2020 feature film Over the Moon was nominated for an Academy Award—will be taking us inside his studio, where we’ll have the opportunity to see him at work and hear about the inspiration and methodology behind his craft.

  • Conversation with Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Bayme
    Thursday, June 17th, 6–7pm ET
    Neil Patrick Harris and magician Jonathan Bayme lead a Q&A about their groundbreaking new immersive gaming experience, Box One. It’s a multimedia story-within-a-story and escape room that’s encased in a box and designed for just one person—you! Look for your own copy in the mail in advance of the event.

JULY


  • Tour of Disney World's Star Wars Experience with Scott Trowbridge
    Friday, July 16th, 3–5pm ET
    Scott Trowbridge is a global creative leader who oversees the strategic concept development and integration of new experiences for Walt Disney Imagineering. He also leads a first-of-its-kind franchise-based portfolio partnering with Lucasfilm, integrating Star Wars content across all lines of business at Walt Disney Parks, Experiences, and Consumer Products. For this tour, he’ll be taking us behind-the-scenes of Walt Disney World’s Star Wars Experience, one of the largest and most immersive spaces Disney has ever attempted.

  • Where There's Smoke (Performance and Q&A with creator Lance Weiler)
    Monday, July 26th, 11am–1pm ET
    Lance Weiler has been at the forefront of tech-infused storytelling for over two decades, and his innovations have transformed our industry multiple times over in that span. He’ll be treating us to a private performance of his brilliant piece Where There's Smoke, which blends documentary and immersive theater to unravel the secrets of his enigmatic father—a volunteer firefighter and amateur fire scene photographer—and two devastating fires that struck the Weiler family in the early 1980s.

  • Game Night!

    Go head-to-head with your fellow Explorers in a battle of wits as we introduce you to some of our favorite virtual gaming experiences!

  • Conversation with author Joe Pine
    Tuesday, August 10th, 11am–12pm ET
    Join us for a short talk and Q&A with Joseph Pine, co-author of The Experience Economy—a seminal book on experience innovation that explores how businesses need to form unique connections in order to secure their customers' affections. His ideas couldn’t be more relevant as people emerge from this period of pandemic isolation hungry for transformational experiences in a way we’ve never seen before.

  • The Under Presents: Tempest (Virtual Reality Performance and Q&A with creators Samantha Gorman and Danny Cannizzaro)
    Day and Time TBC
    Don your Oculus headset (we’ll be loaning one to all Explorers Club members!) and join us in a virtual cabaret called The Under. We'll meet The Under’s creators, Samantha Gorman and Danny Cannizzaro, founders of the art and game studio Tender Claws, and attend a virtual performance of Shakespeare's The Tempest.

SEPTEMBER


  • Tour of teamLab Tokyo with Michaela Kane & Takashi Kudo
    Day and Time TBC
    Tokyo’s teamLab, a multidisciplinary assembly of designers, coders, animators, and architects, blends projection art, immersive design, and cutting-edge computer programming to create art experiences that invite interaction from their viewers. Master Storyteller Michaela Kane will be walking us through their spectacular permanent exhibition: teamLab: Borderless, which seeks to break down barriers between art and people, to rediscover nature through technology, and bring people together through shared experiences.

  • Closing Party in SpatialWeb with Performance by Spoken-Word Poet Jasmine Mans

    Join us in the new virtual meeting platform Spatial for a spoken-word performance by Black American poet and author Jasmine Mans, author of the acclaimed new poetry collection Black Girl, Call Home.
