FoST Is Coming to Austin

From March 10–14, the Future of StoryTelling is partnering with award-winning sleep company Casper and Standard International's spontaneous hotel booking app, ONE:NIGHT, to take over the Austin Motel on South Congress. We’re curating interactive and multisensory experiences that invite visitors to step inside dreams and fantasies.

Below is a list of projects we’re showcasing. Hours are 11am–5pm. If You’re in Austin, stop by and say hello!


ASTEROIDS! is the second installment of the award-winning VR animation INVASION! An alien spaceship manned by two bumbling aliens, Mac and Cheze, along with their two menial robot sidekicks, Peas and YOU, are traveling through deep space on a dangerous mission. In between the daily chores of extraterrestrial life, Mac shares a heartwarming moment with Peas before the unexpected happens.

From Emmy Award–winning Oculus Story Studio comes Dear Angelica, a journey through the magical and dreamlike ways we remember our loved ones. Entirely painted by hand inside of VR, it plays out in a series of memories that unfold around you. It was heralded by critics at Sundance as one of the most beautiful VR pieces ever released, and won best VR Animated Experience at the Lumiere Awards.

Home: A VR Spacewalk | MIXED REALITY

Home puts you at the center of the story, taking you on an emotional and personal journey while delivering beautiful, heart-stopping, and memorable moments.

The fusion of light, sound, and touch has been the inspiration behind many great leaps in the arts. Science has now caught up to this instinctive fascination, making this fusion possible. Light is a collaboration between top-tier talent from multiple disciplines to create a first-of-its-kind, live-synced VR experience for the whole body.

Google Spotlight Stories is where mobile, VR, and storytelling meet, and Rain or Shine is their most intricate interactive story to date.

Then/Now is an interactive video that allows you to uncover the parallel memories and unreliable interpretations of events leading to a couple’s breakup. It is a scripted narrative that presents multiple perspectives of a relationship, and it’s up to you to piece together these fragments in order to gain a broader understanding of the couple’s disputed past and, ultimately, make choices that influence the way the relationship unfolds.
