ABOUT THE POSITION:

We are seeking a Creative Director to lead concept development and creative execution across a range of projects, from experiential and immersive storytelling to digital content and publishing. This role will be instrumental in shaping the creative vision for client projects, while also supporting business development by crafting compelling creative pitches.

The ideal candidate has a background in experiential, digital, or interdisciplinary storytelling—someone who thinks beyond any one medium and can bring big, bold ideas to life across formats. While this is primarily a FoST role, the Creative Director will also contribute to Melcher Media projects, helping shape and elevate creative concepts across the company.

We are looking for a creative leader with strong experience developing and selling ideas, but who is still hands-on and adaptable—able to lead creative vision without requiring a full team of designers and writers.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop creative concepts for projects spanning experiential, digital, and print storytelling, with a focus on client projects and new business opportunities.
  • Lead ideation and craft compelling creative pitches that help win new projects and support business development efforts
  • Shape the storytelling approach for diverse projects, ensuring strategic and artistic alignment.
  • Run projects from concept to execution, while also providing feedback and guidance on work led by others.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to refine and execute ideas across media.
  • Review creative work and provide guidance on experience design, narrative structure, and overall execution.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends in immersive media, digital storytelling, and experiential design.
  • Leverage network and bring in creative contributors such as freelance writers and designers for projects as needed.

Who You Are:

  • A creative innovator—you push boundaries and develop ideas that are fresh, exciting, and meaningful across different media.
  • Excellence-driven—you take pride in your work, maintaining a high bar for quality and bringing a strong sense of ownership to everything you do.
  • A self-starter who goes above and beyond—you thrive in fast-paced environments, roll up your sleeves, and do what it takes to bring great ideas to life.
  • A true team player—you foster collaboration, build camaraderie, optimize for team success – not the individual – and thrive in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • A lifelong learner—you stay on the pulse of new ideas, technologies, and trends, always seeking opportunities to learn, evolve, and push your craft forward.
  • A strong storyteller—you can distill a core idea and shape it into a compelling, emotional, and powerful narrative that resonates with audiences.
  • A polished and professional client partner and presenter—you build trust with clients and present ideas clearly and compellingly for existing projects and new business pitches.
  • Resourceful and adaptable—you’re comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment without a large creative team.

Qualifications:

  • 5–10 years of experience in creative direction, experience design, immersive storytelling, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to develop and pitch creative concepts to clients and stakeholders.
  • Experience working in experiential, digital, or interdisciplinary media (museum-specific experience is a plus but not required).
  • Familiarity with design, video, interactive storytelling, and emerging technologies (AR, VR, AI, etc.).
  • Strong visual and narrative sensibility.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving, evolving environment with diverse creative challenges.
  • Preferred location is New York City, but open to remote candidates.

How to Apply:

If you’re excited by this opportunity and think you’d be a great fit, please send your resume, a portfolio / website if available, and a cover letter to info@fost.org explaining why you’re the right person for this role. Please also share in your cover letter a creative brand that you admire in the storytelling / immersive space, and why. We look forward to hearing from you!
