Rana el Kaliouby: Responsive Stories
Emotional intelligence has been ingrained in storytelling since the dawn of time. In oral storytelling, we use facial expressions to underscore the narrative and adapt the story in real time based on the audience’s interest level. Rana el Kaliouby is interested in how we can make today’s technology more emotionally intelligent. Her company, Affectiva, is creating technology that will enable digital entertainment to respond to the audience’s emotions and engagement level in real time, so that stories can be personalized based on how we’re feeling. Soon, our stories will be just as dynamic as life itself, with an infinite number of possible narratives.
